The Fundació Mies van der Rohe and Creative Europe Open Call for the EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025

Inviting schools to propose the best works from recently graduated architects, urban planners and landscape architects

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards (EUmies Awards), founded in 1988 in Barcelona by Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the European Parliament, are annual awards recognising excellence in built works of architecture in Europe (Architecture and Emerging) and final diploma works by recently graduated architects (Young Talent). The EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025 aims to support the talent of recently graduated architects, urban planners and landscape architects, who will be responsible for transforming our environment in the future.

The award focuses on qualifying master’s degrees projects in architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning which include a design proposal. While most projects will not be built, they nevertheless require all the skills that the students have learned during their training: art, history, aesthetics, technology, science, among others.

Procedure:

- Nominations are entirely free of charge and can only be made by schools by 29 January 2025.
- Open to all qualifying master’s degree projects completed and approved in eligible schools participating in the Creative Europe Programme, developed between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024.
- Authors are required to submit their projects by February 2025.
- Shortlists will be announced in April 2025. In May 2025, finalists will be revealed, and the exhibition during Biennale Architettura 2025 in Venice will open, showcasing all the finalists works.
- The winners’ announcement will be held in June 2025 during the EUmies Awards Day in Venice.

All nominated designs by schools will be published online and, in a catalogue, and will become part of the EUmies Awards archive as recognition of their authors and the schools.

Finalists and shortlisted designs will be selected by the jury (soon to be revealed). The authors will receive a diploma, a profile in World Architects and their designs will be shown in the EUMies Awards Young Talent 2025 archive and exhibition as well as in Venice.

Finally, from the finalists, 3 winners will be selected and will receive a diploma and 5.000€ each, as well a profile in World Architects and furniture from USM to organise their workspace. Their designs will be shown in the EUmies Awards Young Talent Traveling Exhibition and during Biennale Architettura 2025. The schools will also receive a special acknowledgement.

The EUmies Awards Young Talent seeks to encourage cross-pollination between the outputs from different schools and to support young architects as they take their first steps into the professional world.

In parallel, Young Talent Open is also embarking on its new edition. The schools eligible to participate in this edition include those from Council of Europe member countries not part of Creative Europe, such as Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, as well as invited non-European countries: Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Jury will draw up a list of a maximum of six finalist designs, one of which will be the winner.
